Some of the committees at Beth Meyer include:
The Adult Education Committee coordinates opportunities for study and learning for adults. Volunteers can help plan activities, help welcome speakers to our community, and help set up or facilitate learning activities.
Beth Meyer is a warm and caring congregation. Members of this committee volunteer their time, effort, and talents to make our community a better place. The following opportunities are available:
• Visiting the sick/Bikkur Holim – Visit congregants in the hospital, visit homebound congregants and others in retirement/assisted care facilities, provide meals, call homebound congregants to keep in touch and send “thinking of you” cards.
• Welcoming guests/Hachnasat Orchim – Host congregants and guests for Shabbat or holidays, arrange for rides to synagogue, and welcome new babies.
• Comforting the mourner/Nechum Aveylim – Contact the mourner, be a companion to the mourner, send a condolence card, and provide or make sure that the following is done: a shiva meal is prepared, the shiva house is set up, and shiva minyans are organized.
Beth Meyer Synagogue has a full circulating Jewish library that is staffed by volunteers. We have materials for all ages - from tots to adults. We have books, magazines, CDs, video tapes, and DVDs. The Library Committee meets once a week. Help is always needed and appreciated.
The Membership Committee welcomes new and potential congregants to the Beth Meyer community. Volunteers can answer questions, help plan events, and continue to make Beth Meyer Synagogue the hamish spiritual home for all members of the congregation. Sub-committees under Membership include Havurah, Mentoring Program.
The School Committee supports the Religious School Director, and members of the committee serve as liaisons between the religious school, parents, and the congregation. Members of the committee are responsible to understand the policies of the Religious School and to be able to share this understanding with the general congregation. While not supervisory in nature, this committee provides feedback and suggestions to the Religious School Director about the various operational aspects of the school.
The Ritual Committee works closely with the rabbi in formulating the plans for all religious activities and programs of the congregation, in conformity with the precedents and principles of Conservative Judaism.
The Beth Meyer Social Action Committee has three broad areas of focus, with short-term and long-term goals in the realm of tikkun olam:
• Community service – Working with local non-profit organizations to help better the community we live in.
• Congregational-based community organizing – Working with other religious communities so that we can make a broader societal impact.
• Global social justice – Darfur, as well as Israel and Palestine, are significant topics on the agenda.
This committee serves to warmly greet worshippers at Shabbat services and maintain a decorum conducive to prayer.
The focus of this committee is providing social, ritual, and social action programs for Jewish children and teens. The Youth Activities Committee meets every other month to review youth programming and to offer our Youth Director ideas and help for programs.
Our Sisterhood, Men’s Club, religious school, and preschool also provide many wonderful opportunities for you to get involved and connected with the synagogue.
