When many of us hear the word Hasidic, we picture pious Jews in black clothing living in neighborhoods of Brooklyn or Jerusalem. But the roots of Hasidism are much broader. The movement’s founder, the Baal Shem Tov, was a spiritual revolutionary — seen as a rebel by the leading rabbis of his time.
