How Can We Be Happy on Purim When We’re Just Not Feeling It?
Sunday, March 10, 10:15-11 a.m., Library and Zoom
Post October 7, with the war in Israel and Gaza ongoing, celebrating Purim this year is going to be hard. Join Rabbi Eric by studying a passage from the Piacesna Rebbe (the Rabbi of the Warsaw Ghetto), who found a way to inspire the Jewish community to be happy when the world was far, far from it. Please register whether you will be attending in-person or via Zoom. A Zoom link is sent upon registration.

Hamantaschen Baking Marathon
Sunday, March 17, noon - 5 p.m., Social Hall
Drop in anytime to bake some delicious hamantaschen. We supply the dough and fillings, you supply the elbow grease. Each family unit makes 2 dozen — 1 dozen to take home and 1 dozen to leave behind for our community Purim celebrations. Registration helps us plan for supplies.

Reading The Megillah After October 7th: Ta'anit Esther (Fast Of Esther) with Hadar Institute
Thursday, Mar. 21, 9:30 a.m.-2:20 p.m., online
Even though Purim parades itself as the most joyful day of the year, Megillat Esther is a story of intense crisis and violence. At the beginning, Jews face an existential threat, and at the end, Jews kill their enemies on a massive scale. In the wake of October 7, these crises of Purim feel very real, as we mourn unimaginably cruel acts of violence against Israelis, encounter increased antisemitism and fear in Jewish communities worldwide, and confront the sobering fact of so many Palestinians killed in recent months. As a day of fasting and prayer before PurimTa'anit Esther is an opportunity to reflect and confront these crises. Beth Meyer Synagogue is a co-sponsor of this day of learning with Hadar Institute.

Saturday, March 23, 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM, Sanctuary
