Postcard Writing Party

Sunday, May 4, 2025 6 Iyyar 5785

9:30 AM - 12:00 PMCourtyard

If you agree with groups like the ACLU, Brennan Center, and Everytown for Gun Safety that the SAVE Act and HB5/SB50 is harmful, stop by our table to write a postcard (or two, or more!) to Congress. We’ll provide everything you need — postcards, stamps, pens, addresses, and sample messages. Just fill one out and sign your name!

Here’s what we’re writing for:
Urge our state senators and representatives to vote against HB5 and SB50
These bills would allowed concealed carry of handguns without a permit, thus eliminating the requirement to do background checks, participate in gun safety training, and lower the age of purchase to 18. More information can be found here.

Urge our Senator Budd and Senator Tillis to vote against the SAVE Act
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, now before the Senate, would require anyone registering or re-registering to vote to show in-person proof of citizenship—such as a passport or birth certificate—with documentation that exactly matches their ID. Common IDs like driver’s licenses, REAL IDs, and military or tribal IDs would not qualify. Since over 140 million Americans do not possess a passport and around 69 million women who have taken their spouse’s name do not have a birth certificate matching their legal name, many could face barriers. The bill also imposes criminal penalties on election officials who register non-citizens. More information can be found here.

This event is sponsored by Social Action at Beth Meyer Synagogue.
