Rev. Melissa Florer-Bixler will be our special guest at Shabbat services on May 13 and will present a talk entitled Transformative memories: George Taylor, racial justice, and “peace in the land.” On Nov. 5, 1918, a white mob lynched George Taylor, a Black husband and father of two little children, after Taylor was accused of assaulting a white woman in her home in Rolesville, NC. Since 2017, the Wake County Community Remembrance Project has worked to memorialize Taylor’s lynching. How does recovery of memories of the racial trauma in the United States aid our healing and lead towards transformation? How can we participate in remembering in a way that brings peace to our land?

Following services, Rev. Florer-Bixler will be joining us for kiddush and continued conversation over lunch.
