How can we understand the recent election? What can we learn? Where do we go from here? Please join us for brunch and a presentation by Professor Jeff Spinner-Halev, the Kenan Eminent Professor of Political Ethics in the Department of Political Science at UNC-Chapel Hill, and Rob Schofield, NC Newsline Editor.

Our Sunday Brunch Speaker Series is open to the community. Brunches are free for members; we kindly request a donation with a suggested amount of $18 for community members.

About our speakers
Jeff Spinner-Halev is the Kenan Eminent Professor of Political Science at UNC-Chapel Hill.  He received his B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He is a core faculty member of the Philosophy, Politics and Economics program and for the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies program; he is also on the Advisory Board of the Peace, War and Defense program, where he teaches a course on just war theory. He has long-standing research interests in the political ramifications of group identity and the relationship between majorities and minorities in different parts of the world, including Israel, India and the United States. He is the author of several books and many articles. His most recent book is Respect and Loathing in American Democracy: Polarization, Moralization, and the Undermining of Equality (University of Chicago Press, 2024).

Rob Schofield, Editor, has nearly four decades of experience as a journalist, commentator, and lawyer. In addition to overseeing NC Newsline operations, Schofield writes a widely-circulated weekly opinion column and handles numerous public speaking and electronic media appearances. He also delivers an audio commentary that’s broadcast weekdays on Raleigh’s MIX 101.5/WRAL-FM and hosts News and Views, a weekly news magazine podcast that airs on multiple online platforms and North Carolina radio stations.
