What role can and must American Jews play in shaping Israel’s “Day After”—the Jewish state that will emerge after October 7th?

Join us for a special guest lecture by Dr. Yizhar Hess, the Vice Chairman of the WZO (World Zionist Organization). Known internationally for his activism and commentary, Dr. Hess focuses on matters of religion and state, as well as the relationship between Israel and the Jewish diaspora.

Dr. Hess served as the Executive Director of the Masorti Movement, which is dedicated to a traditional, egalitarian, and pluralistic vision of Judaism. You can read his full bio here.

Since his visit falls during the online elections for the World Zionist Congress, there will be an opportunity for attendees to exercise their democratic right to vote. This event is open to the community.

The World Zionist Congress election is coming! The voting period to elect the members of the World Zionist Congress will begin on March 10 and run through May 4. BMS supports the Mercaz Olami slate of candidates representing the global Conservative/Masorti movement.

Voting for Mercaz is critical to protect liberal and pluralistic Judaism in Israel and around the world from the takeover of the WZC by ultra-Orthodox parties, with important issues including access to the Kotel, conversion recognition, environmental concerns, and many more hanging in the balance.

Voting will be open to all Jews over the age of 18 outside Israel and will only require a few clicks on your phone and a nominal $5 administration fee. Right now is the time to sign up for reminders! Visit mercazusa.org/votemercaz2025 and use our BMS Community Code 391.

Questions can be answered by our shul's election captains, Steve and Pilar LaSala. Email or call Beth Meyer, and we will put you in touch with them. Thank you for your support!
